As a property owner in MB , I'm very angry at the taxes. The property taxes are too high , I'm paying almost $3000 on a tiny 1 bedroom condo !!! and 12% rental tax is highway robbery !!! The average middle class person can't afford MB . I will selling my condo soon or will go into foreclosure, because I can't keep up with the payments ,insurance, taxes etc. Please vote these bums out of office, who is watching out for the property owners in MB ???

What's the big deal about 1% tax increase? I love NMB and wouldn't think of going somewhere else for my vacation.

I agree with Becky, that if reservations were made prior to the March 1st date, then there should not be an increase in the rate we were quoted. Nothing was told to us about the increase when we made the reservation and it was after November 08. It should have been disclosed upon scheduling the reservation.

My only problem is that our reservation was made before the first of the year. I feel the tax should only be on reservations made after the tax increase.

What is particularly upsetting is that tourists coming to NMB this coming summer have already established their vacation budget and determined what accommodations fit into that budget. A determined agreement at a certain price has already been quoted and agreed to which is now changing! If this tax were to apply to any new reservations as of March 2009, that would have much more fair. Instead your bad taste is ruining a loyal customer/tourist's impression of a great family vacation spot.

Wow theres people angry here about the sales tax, but wouldnt the locals have to pay sales tax all year too? I'm sure this isnt mean to punish the vacationers, theyre probably just running low on money like every other municipality. I plan to keep vacationing to MB, and if theres a few less whiners like the other people here, then all the better. If you dont like it, pick somewhere else.

First it was to stop the bike rallies that brought in money, now it is to raise taxes for the tourist. It sounds like to me they don't want people visiting myrtle beach. I've noticed a lot of things have gone down hill the last few years I've visited and I visit twice a yeaar. Maybe it is time to move on somewhere else.

The rationale behind this tax would be easier to accept if there hadn't been an offsetting property tax reduction. Education is a local responsibility and the rest of us pay property taxes to educate our children properly in our home states/provinces. Educating your children by taxing visitors while reducing your own taxes seems very convenient. At some point, visitors will simply say enough is enough and move on to somewhere more welcoming.

This may be my last year vacationing in Myrtle Beach. It may be time to move onto a friendlier vacation spot. This is not the first time that a new tax has been added after my reservation & deposit are in. Getting tired of locals getting their discounts at restaurants, golf courses etc. while visitor/vacationer pays top dollar. Better not bite off the hand that feeds you!!!!
