There are several ways to cut down the expense of insuring your vacation home in Myrtle Beach. Here are some great tips from our local insurance agent, Scott Todd of Todd Insurance Agency, Inc.

1. Get a longterm customer discount – If you’ve had homeowner’s insurance with the same company for years, think twice before moving to a new carrier. You may be getting discounts for having that policy for a long time. Do the math and see if moving to a new company will save you money. (Many companies grant the same discount if you’ve been with a prior company for a long time)

2. Combine your vehicle, boat or motorcycle, and homeowners insurance policies and keep them with the same company. This is one of the biggest discounts you can have.

3. Try to purchase your home nearby to a “paid” or city fire station. Volunteer fire stations will help, but your best discount is being near a city organization. Try to make sure you have a fire hydrant within a mile of the house for even more of a discount.

4. Add a security system to your home. Make sure you keep well-maintained fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, carbon dioxide detectors, even an alarm for radon gas. Don’t forget to notify the agent when you’ve done this. Neighborhood Watch communities can help, too.

5. Don’t own a typically vicious dog or dangerous animal. Any type of dog like a doberman, rottweiler, or pit bull can increase your homeowner’s liability insurance. Resist the impulse to get that new “wild” cross-bred cat, too.

6. Keep pools, hottubs, or trampolines behind a locked fence, and maintain guard rails on any outside stairs. Many times these fall under city ordinances as well.

7. When figuring your appraised value, deduct the amount that would cover land only. You want to insure only the home or structure, not the rocks and grass!

8. If purchasing, choose a newer home. Most insurance companies charge more for older homes due to repair rates.

9. Stick to a well-known national insurance company and choose a higher deductible. You may find a lower rate with a fly-by-night company, but if you have to make a claim, they may have flown!

10. Keep a high credit score, or choose one of the insurance companies that don’t count your credit rating in your premium charges. If you’ve got excellent credit, find a company that rewards it. Taking the time to do a little homework can help your insurance expenses whether it comes to SC homeowners insurance or cheap car insurance in Myrtle Beach.

Also, if you’re in another state and have your car insurance with a company, you can insure your condo in Myrtle Beach with the same company and get the same multi-policy discount. Todd Insurance Agency, Inc is fully licensed for any city in the states of North and South Carolina. Todd Insurance can protect your car, home, motorcycle, boat, provide renters insurance, and much more..

The Sun News (Myrtle Beach's leading newspaper) reported that the area had a 97 percent occupancy rate for the Fourth of July weekend, a number not reached since 2005

Although receiving unfavorable comments from locals on the story, the Sun News (Myrtle Beach’s leading newspaper) reported that the area had a 97 percent occupancy rate for the Fourth of July weekend, a number not reached since 2005. Furthermore, according to reps from the Clay Brittain Jr. Center for Resort Tourism at Coastal Carolina University, the Myrtle Beach area should have about a 90 percent occupancy rate for the rest of July.

Good news? Yes and no. While there may be more people actually HERE in Myrtle Beach, because of the tremendous discounts offered by the hotels, condos and other lodging businesses, the profit margins are very thin. According to the article, the Myrtle Beach Chamber even spent more money this year in advertising, using money from the 1 percent tax increase.

It’s not just the accommodations industry though, but people are simply watching their money in general, which is why the promotion for the Freestyle Music Park on July 4 went over so well and lots of people are taking advantage of our Myrtle Beach condo deals at CondoLux.

—-

On another note, if you happen to be interested in real estate deals, we just updated the Myrtle Beach oceanfront condo foreclosures list. We try to keep this list updated as much as possible so that you can take advantage of the changing real estate market. Bookmark the page and check back!

Webcams, webcams webcams! Plenty to choose from in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. Some good, some bad. We give you the inside scoop on which ones you should check out!

Webcams, webcams webcams! Plenty to choose from in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. Some good, some bad. The most popular are the ones overlooking the beach. These are usually attached to Myrtle Beach condos up high so they get the best view. We have visited and rated the most popular! Which will YOU spend the most time at?

Ocean Creek Resort
http://www.oceancreek.com/webcam.cfm

This webcam gives three different views to choose from–the resort pool, a distant shot of the beach, and the walkway across the marsh to the beach. However, the “camera” aspect of this one leaves much to be desired, since the images are still and don’t refresh unless the visitor refreshes their browser. These three views might be good for checking the weather or how crowded the resort pool is, but it quickly loses its interest value.

Crown Reef Resort
http://www.crownreef.com/ (Click on WEBCAM on the left)

Crown Reef’s beach webcam gives a more interesting angle, from high above the beach angled down the shoreline. A few miles’ worth of beach is visible in the viewing window, along with the ocean, some of Crown Reef’s outdoor amenities, and a more distant view of Springmaid Pier. The image is still but automatically refreshes about every twenty seconds. This webcam would be great to use for a quick overview of how crowded the beach is and the tide level.

Grande Shores
http://www.grandeshores.com/grandeshoreswebcam.cfm

The Grande Shores webcam is sophisticated and interactive with a live streaming image. When the viewer chooses one of the camera presets, the camera rotates and zooms to a certain area, giving multiple views of the beach and the resort property. Options include a northward view along the beach, a southern view, two different close looks at the beach itself, a few different views of the pool and lounge area, and a view for watching the sun rise over the ocean. The image is very crisp and clear.

Beach Cove Beach Cam
http://www.beachcove.com/webcam.cfm

This beach webcam gives a good view of the resort’s pool, beach, ocean and sky all in one frame. It’s a still image which automatically refreshes every eight seconds. Since it does show a good portion of the sky, this webcam would be good for checking the weather in Myrtle Beach and watching the run rise.

Avista
http://mail.seasideproperties.com/avwebcam2.shtml

The Avista webcam works in much the same way as the Grande Shores webcam, since they seem to be run on the same type of software. Visitors are able to choose from several different views and the camera will rotate and zoom accordingly. Multiple views of the swimming pools, lazy rivers, and resort property are available, but there are only two views of the beach and ocean. There is an option to control the camera movement without presets, but the controls can be hard to use. Despite its drawbacks, it’s a fun camera to use for a while.

Pier 14
http://www.pier14.com/earthcam.html

The Pier 14 Restaurant webcam gives a view down the beach and of the nearby 14th Avenue Pier. The image refreshes about every two or three seconds. This section of beach looks like a busy one, so it would be fun especially during the summer months to watch all the people enjoying the beach and ocean. The only problem with this webcam is that it has very poor quality. A sunny day looks grey and overcast on this one, so use another if you want to see a good view of the weather.

Ocean Lakes Web Cam
http://64.70.203.29/Web_Cam/webcam_SH.html

Unlike the previous webcams, this one does not show a view of the beach or ocean, but instead shows the pool and lounge area at Ocean Lakes Family Campground. It has a still image which refreshes every few seconds. Aside from the drawback of not showing the ocean, this webcam may be useful for parents staying at the campground to keep watch on their kids swimming in the pool.

Blackmoor Webcam
http://www.blackmoor.com/webcam/

Like the Ocean Lakes webcam, this one is not a view of the beach or ocean, but instead shows the course at Blackmoor Golf Club. It has a still image which refreshes about every twenty seconds so it doesn’t stream live, but it can be useful for golfers who want to check out the condition of the area golf courses in Myrtle Beach.

SCDOT Traffic Cams
http://www.dot.state.sc.us/getting/cams/MyrtleBeachCam.asp

The Department of Transportation hosts multiple traffic cams through the Grand Strand area on most major transportation routes. Cameras show a view of major intersections from slightly above. It can sometimes be hard to judge the level of traffic from this angle, but it can be very useful for both locals and visitors to check the traffic levels along different streets to see which routes to avoid. The cameras do not automatically refresh.

Most of those in the hospitality industry will agree that tourism did take a blow for the 2008 season. Of course, this all depends on what particular industry you are in. I even remember a story a few months ago when even Hamburger Joe’s Restaurant in North Myrtle Beach was taking a hit. And now with bike week bikers being bummed about the new ordinances for bikers, the spring bike rally probably won’t bring as much money as it has in previous years. So yea, 2009 might be quite tough!

“While the chamber’s membership is divided between pro-rally and anti-rally voices, the one overriding opinion of our board and members alike is that the chamber can and should lead an effort to develop a post-rally revenue recovery plan,” Dean said. I am glad to see efforts are being made to attempt to recovery some of the money lost by the ordinances.

Now the vacation rental industry is another story. Not to toot our own horn, but Condolux, however, is still going strong. Seeing as how we specialize in Myrtle Beach condos and beach homes, you would think that the vacation rentals might take the biggest hit. However, those businesses that have built a strong reputation and foothold in the industry over the years already have a good handle on the trends and ways to work around them without having to raise prices for the customers. Of course, every business and even the Chamber has to work on GETTING them to Myrtle Beach first.

“In 2009, it can’t be business as usual. We’ll need to reinforce the value component of the destination because so many travelers will be scaling back their expenses. … The most recent survey indicates that nearly half of all likely travelers in our top 10 feeder markets are planning to reduce their travel in 2009,” Dean said.

Homeowners Associations are established to preserve, protect and enhance the community. The powers of a homeowners association are derived partly from applicable law and partly from the bylaws and the recorded declaration. The services provided by your Homeowners Association are varied and extensive. So the homeowners association are usually jointly responsible for the full costs of maintaining the infrastructure and any facilities owned by their association and, via their payment of rates to the local authority, they are also contributing to the costs of maintaining the infrastructure of all other townships within the jurisdiction of their local authority. Most Associations have a set of Rules and Regulations as well as Architectural Guidelines.

Homeowners associations are entities organized to govern the operation of common interest communities. Homeowner’s associations are governed by a board of directors which are elected by the homeowners. Homeowner’s association boards are well-advised to use tact, persuasion, and reason whenever possible in the enforcement of their rules. They also have the power to impose reasonable fines for violations of the rules and regulations and to levy late charges for tardy assessments. Homeowners Association are established to preserve, protect and enhance the community. They are non-profit corporations formed to “maintain” a subdivision (community, neighborhood). Their dues range from around $20 to $70 a month, depending on the types of amenities and size of the community; although Homeowner’s Associations may no longer prohibit property owners from displaying political signs on their property, even if deed restrictions or restrictive covenants purport to ban the practice. The Association is responsible for all maintenance and repairs to the common areas of the property, including the grounds, and the parking areas/roadways, as well as the exterior surfaces of the buildings such as doors, windows, skylights, decks, patios, stoops or sidewalks. Each owner shall be responsible for the maintenance of that portion of the landscape screen and/or entrance treatment that is located on his or her lot.

Generally the Homeowner’s Association’s board meetings will be published and open to all resident members. The Board meetings, which are typically open to all unit owners, are usually held on a monthly basis. Even though the meetings are open, there is no obligation to allow non-board members an opportunity to speak or otherwise participate in the meeting.

Keep in mind that the rules and regulations of the Homeowners Association are designed for the good of all homeowners and the community. Even though they may be strict, the Homeowners Associations are established to preserve, protect and enhance the community

According to an article published by the Sun News in Myrtle Beach, homes are now selling faster since the decline in prices over the past six months. Homes spent an average of fewer days on the market during the first half of this year than the same time last year in the Grand Strand area. 202 days vs 225 days

Keep in mind, this doesn’t mean there were MORE home sales (actually they were down 29.3 percent, according to the article.) The same with condo sales, where the median price dropped 11.1 percent from last year’s first half.

So what does this mean to me? The average home buyer? It means I should have waited six months to buy my house. But who would have known. I read that others are waiting for the market to hit rock bottom before they buy, so they can get an even better deal. Other than that, its just interesting to see where the Myrtle Beach real estate market is going. Excellent investment opportunities are out there for condos.

Many do not realize that Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are two separate incorporated cities. North Myrtle is not just the northern section of Myrtle Beach, but rather a different area all its own. Keep in mind, there is no South Myrtle Beach either. The southern section of the Grand Strand consists of Surfside Beach, Garden City, Pawley’s Island and Murrells Inlet.

SO, where should you stay? These quick tips may help you make your decision. As always, feel free to check out the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and the North Myrtle Beach Chamber for additional area information and calendar of events.

1. North Myrtle Beach is “quieter.” Although quiet is a subjective term, there generally isn’t as much hustle and bustle in North Myrtle Beach. Less traffic, and a much more maneuverable Ocean Blvd. It does stay busy though, especially during Saturday mornings to mid afternoon when all the tourists arrive. However, all the local-oriented stores, like Wal-mart and Lowes, are like ghost-towns compared to Myrtle Beach. It’s a different kind of traffic in North Myrtle and there are still bumber to bumbers in both places.

2. Beaches. It wouldn’t be a top vacation destination without a good beach, right? Both Myrtle and North Myrtle, and actually, all of the Grand Strand, lends itself to a good set of beaches. So whats the difference? Many say that North Myrtle Beach has “wider” beaches, as in the space between the dunes and the ocean water. Of course, this is depending on where the tide is at – AND which beach we are talking about! Myrtle Beach has state parks that have very nice, maintained beaches, some of which are just as wide as North Myrtle. In my opinion, both beaches are very nice and will be lots of fun. Parking is another story though. Both Myrtle and North Myrtle have public parking next to beaches, but the state park in Myrtle lends itself to a more relaxed parking search. Sometimes the public parking is so full, you drive around for a bit looking for a space.

3. Buildings. North Myrtle is a newer area than Myrtle, so many of the condos are newer and have a bit more luxury attached to them, depending on where you stay.

4. Attractions. Visit our Myrtle Beach Attractions page for a full list of attractions. Chances are, no matter where you stay, you will visit both cities. They both have a large list of things to do and places to eat, so don’t base your decision on where to stay based on how close they are to attractions, unless you have a very specific itinerary.

Hope this helps! Comments are welcome.

Myrtle Beach has recently opened a new, tremendous addition to the Grand Strand. Located on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force base off of highway 17, the Market Commons offers upscale clothing, food and accessories.

I visited the Market Commons and felt as if I were at the Atlantic Station in downtown Atlanta, Georgia or St. Johns Towns Center in Jacksonville, Florida- both places that offer an array of stores from Urban Outfitter’s to Express and fine cuisine from P.F. Chang’s to the Geisha House.

If you love to shop as I do, this is the perfect spot for you.

Visit White House-Black Market to find a wide selection of quality casual and formal white and black clothing. I have always enjoyed shopping at this store; however, the Grand Strand has never offered it until now.

For boutique lover’s, this location also offers several clothing and accessory boutiques.

If you love to grab a book and sit in the tranquil ambiance of Barnes & Noble as I do, you can do so here as well.

Other stores include Chico’s, Banana Republic, izzi-b, Victoria Secrets, Anthropologie, Ann Taylor, Pottery Barn, and many more.

They even have my all time favorite restaurant, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro. For all you lover’s of Chinese cuisine, P.F. Chang’s provides a relaxing atmosphere, a diverse menu and a perfect place for an evening out. My preference is the spicy Kung Pao Shrimp mixed with peanuts, chili peppers and scallions alongside of their unlimited, freshly made rice.

In addition to P.F. Chang’s, Market Commons also has Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant.

It can only get better as more stores begin to open and the construction begins on phase two as the year progresses.

It’s time for some fun in the sun with the 55th Annual Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo Competition! The event is sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and runs from April 1st thru October 31st.

Prizes awarded will total over $17,000 and your catch can earn shoulder patches, monthly decals, cash and merchandise. Awards are given for Fish of the Month, Largest of Species, and Outstanding Catches including men’s, women’s and children’s groups. Wouldn’t it be great if your catch of the day earned you the $2000 grand prize?!

Over 20 varieties of fish will be included in the competition, including Blackfin Tuna, Bluefish, Founder, Grouper, King Mackerel, Trout and Yellowfin Tuna. You just might catch the Yellowfin Tuna that breaks the state record of 241.12 lbs! Or the Bluefish that beats the state record of 21 lbs.

No matter what your catch, you’ll enjoy a fantastic day on or near the water here in the Grand Strand. You can fish anywhere in the coastal waters from the North Carolina line at Calabash southward to the South Santee River. If you are boating, be sure to depart and return to port within the areas mentioned.

This is all for fun! The Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo promotes recreational fishing along the Grand Strand. Awards are presented to recreational fisherman only.

Some important events to keep in mind are the Spring 2008 Pier Kind Mackerel Tournament (June 13-15), the 2008 Fall Mackerel Tournament (September 19-21) and the Take a Kid Fishing Tournament (October 25.)

The Take a Kid Fishing Tournament is designed to introduce our youth to the sport of fishing and is a great opportunity for parents, relatives or friends to spend a day with a child. Fishing is a great way to teach kids to associate the outdoors with fun and excitement (especially if the fish are biting.) A day spent out on a boat, the pier, or the chance to play knee-deep in water will be fun-filled and enjoyable for both you and your child.

There is no registration fee, but it’s important to be registered by October 13, 2008. The registration has to be filled out by an adult and can be picked up at any of the Grand Strand fishing piers. Additional information is available at www.GrandStrandFishingRodeo.com .

With three divisions, it’s a great day for kids of all ages! There’s a group for younger anglers who are 6 years old and under, 7-11 years old and young adults 12-18 years.

No equipment? No problem. Each child/adult team can bring their own equipment or complimentary equipment will be provided at the pier.

Fishing is a great sport and a fantastic way for a family to spend some time together! You just can’t beat a day relaxing on the water and enjoying the warm South Carolina Sunshine. The Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo is a great way to enjoy the sport. Be sure not to overlook this great activity when planning your leisure or vacation time here in the beautiful Myrtle Beach area.

Since spring is here, kids usually want to do something extracurricular outside in order to enjoy the weather. The Grand Strand has an abundance of locations that are family oriented and both enjoyable for kids and adults.

I have 11 year-old twin brothers who love for me to take them to a miniature golf course, shopping, to NASCAR Speed Park and the beach.

Driving along bypass or business 17, you are bound to find several places for miniature golf from North Myrtle Beach to downtown Myrtle Beach.

Their favorite location is May Day Golf located at 715 Highway 17 North, North Myrtle Beach. This miniature golf course takes you on an adventure of a beautiful island after crashing there on a charter plane. The course keeps you busy for at least an hour and the pricing is reasonable. Free (children 3 and under) $7.00 (12 and under) $8.00 (adults)

Of course, there are other options along the Grand Strand including Dragon’s Lair Fantasy Golf in Broadway at the Beach, Jurassic Mini Golf 812 North Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach) and Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf (2205 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach).

You can also enjoy the beautiful weather while shopping in Myrtle Beach at the Tanger Outlets at 10835 Kings Road and located off of Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach. With over 100 brand name outlets ranging from KB Toys to Banana Republic, the outlets offers stores fit for any age.

NASCAR Speed Park, located at 1820 21st Avenue in Myrtle Beach, near Broadway at the Beach, is a great place to go to drive along one of their seven tracks, golf on their NASCAR themed miniature courses, cruise in one of their speed bumper boats and visit their arcade. For information on pricing visit: http://www.nascarspeedpark.com/myrtlebeach.html.

If you’re interested in soaking up the sun while your kids build sandcastles and swim, then the beach may be the perfect choice for you. I enjoy taking the twins to the quiet Cherry Grove Beach, where they can play football while I read a book. Travel anywhere along North or South Ocean Boulevard to find a public parking lot and the beach spot right for you.

For the rainy days, Ripley’s Aquarium, Laser FX Laser Tag, the movie theater, Coastal Grand Mall and the IMAX Theater are great alternatives. For more information on what to do on a rainy day and the contact information for the previous locations visit: http://www.mbchamber.com/mb-cvb/Vacations_Getaways/Rainy_Day_Activities.html

Myrtle Beach is one of those cities where you cannot come for a visit without going to a few popular locations.

Soak up the sun. Take a morning or afternoon, pack your beach bag and head out to one of Myrtle Beach’s beautiful sandy beaches off of <st1:street><st1:address>Ocean Boulevard</st1:address></st1:street>. As a native of the area, I never get tired of the beach and I always look forward to the warm weather and the cool breeze; perfect weather for a day at the beach.

Gather your clubs. If you’re a golfer, Myrtle Beach is the perfect place to find a great spot to golf at one of the hundred’s of courses available. Although I am not a golfer myself, I have been to several golf courses with friends who visit primarily to enjoy golfing in the area. You can create custom Myrtle Beach golf packages with northmyrtlebeachgolf.com to save a good chunk of change during your golf vacation. Visit one of top courses around Myrtle Beach listed below:

Long Bay Golf Club, North Myrtle Beach

Fulfill you appetite. Visit a few restaurants around the beach, particularly seafood restaurants- Myrtle Beach’s specialty. My favorites are Bennet’s Calabash Seafood (<st1:address><st1:street>North Kings Highway</st1:street>, Myrtle Beach</st1:address>), Captain George’s Seafood (<st1:address><st1:street>29th Avenue</st1:street>, Myrtle Beach</st1:address>) and Original Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood (<st1:address><st1:street>North Kings Highway</st1:street>, Myrtle Beach</st1:address>). I usually go for the buffet, which ranges from $15 to $30, which is well worth it if you are a seafood lover.

Check out the nightlife. If you want a night out on the town, Myrtle Beach has a variety of nice places to visit. I usually enjoy going to Broadway at the Beach, which not only has a variety of shops, restaurants, rides, putt putt golf, a movie theater and aquarium, but also several bars and nightclubs.

For me, Senior Frogs is a great spot. A restaurant during the day, and club by night, that plays different styles of music including R&B, Pop, Reggae and Rap. If you enjoy piano, jazz and blues music, Crocodile Rocks is the perfect spot for you. For those of you who enjoy karaoke, Broadway Louie’s Grill gives you the opportunity to sing your favorite songs.

Broadway at the Beach also includes Club Boca, Froggy Bottomz, Malibu’s, Shucker’s Raw Bar, Revolutions, Stool Pigeons, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville, Fat Tuesday and Blarney Stone’s Pub & Cigar Bar,

You can check out this website for specials and cover charges: http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/nightlife.html

Visit the beach’s new addition, Hard Rock Park. Although Hard Rock Park doesn’t open until Spring of this year, I have constantly heard ranting and raving about this rock-n-roll theme park for months. Located off of Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach, this park will include a live music amphitheater, rides, restaurants, cafes and retail stores. I don’t have first hand experience to share about this park; however, I believe that it will be nothing but a positive addition to the beach.

—————————

No matter what you have in mind, there are plenty of things to do in the area to make your Myrtle Beach vacation one to remember!

As it gets closer to Spring time, I can’t help but think about one of Myrtle Beach’s signature qualities, the beach.

Although many people flock to the beaches near South Ocean Boulevard in downtown Myrtle Beach, I prefer to stay away from the traffic, busyness and the crowds on the beaches.

Don’t get me wrong, the beaches in Myrtle Beach are great, but I love the tranquility of being able to lounge comfortably and listen to the seagulls and the waves of the ocean crashing, without the hassle of finding a spot and the endless noise of a crowd.

If you love that atmosphere, stop at any public parking spot off of South Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, which runs parallel to business 17; however, if you’re like me, then you may want to take a visit to North Ocean Boulevard in Cherry Grove, only 10 to 15 miles further away. Furthermore, Cherry Grove is also a section that isn’t occupied my condos, rather, Myrtle Beach Beach homes take up the space, giving it a less busy atmosphere.

In all of my visits to Cherry Grove I have only experienced overcrowding once, which happened to occur Memorial Weekend also known as Biker Weekend in Myrtle Beach.

Besides that particular weekend, I have always been able to easily find a parking space and find an open spot on the sandy beach. My favorite area is near the Cherry Grove Pier at 3500 North Ocean Boulevard.

At this spot, you can walk down a couple blocks to conveniently find a few pizza and ice cream shops and several beach stores, perfect for an afternoon at the beach. You can also stroll down the historical pier in Cherry Grove. Like I said before, Cherry Grove has more of a ‘homey’ feel because of the lack of large North Myrtle Beach condos taking up the space.

The relaxed atmosphere in this area is perfect for a day at the beach by yourself, with friends or family.

If you are from up north, it’s hard to actually grasp that around New Year’s Day, you can be outside in a T-shirt in Myrtle Beach. That’s what happened this year anyway, who’s to say it wouldn’t happen again?!

Warmer Weather = More Tourists = More Footwork
Most of our vacationers come from Spring to Fall, and the increase in traffic backs that up. Locals who drive along Hwy 17 or Ocean Blvd know they better add at least 10 to 20 minutes to their commute during the heavy tourist season. If you are like me and don’t like traffic, you may want to try coming earlier or later to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist season. Myrtle Beach has mild temperatures all year long, so although you may not be able to take a swim in the ocean in October, you better believe the weather is still lovely enough to have a good time outside and take a walk on the beach.

I was also surprised to see how much cheaper rental rates are during the off-season! You can save half or even 75-percent off regular weekly summer rates! This goes for Myrtle Beach golf packages too.

If I can’t convince you to stay away during the busy seasons, keep this word of caution though: Our summer months are HOT. July and August are some of the hottest months we have, and can be unbearable at times if you are not in a pool. Golfers know this. They try to stay off the greens during that heat wave. If you can stand the oven, though, then come on down!

Don’t forget about Myrtle Beach Winter Rentals though! Although it may a little chilly, planning that Valentines Day getaway, or New Years celebration will save you a bundle! Don’t believe me? Check out these rates on Laguna Keyes.

Check the Weather
Although rare, Myrtle Beach does have hurricanes, so be sure to check the news a week or so before your departure.

Of course, you can’t plan your vacation thats 4 months away on whether its going to rain the week you are here or not. It’s funny though. During the times it is raining, it could be a downpour where you are at, but bright and sunny in another part of the Grand Strand. I guess it’s because we are so close to the ocean. I’m not a meteorologist, so I can’t explain it.

Just make sure you plan some indoor activities as well as outdoor for your Myrtle Beach vacation.

So, just to recap, you will have a cheaper vacation if you don’t come during the tourist season, and the weather will still be moderate and beautiful. Just don’t come during the winter months if you expect to be doing some walking on the beach. Other than that, good luck!
