Myrtle Beach is one of the most rapidly growing family and holiday destinations in the United States today. As of 2012, Myrtle Beach draws about 15 million visitors each year as well as many thousands of new residents. Fondly called “The Grand Strand” by both visitors and locals, Myrtle Beach’s population has grown over 35 percent in the last ten years. As we move into the year 2012 and beyond, this all-new Myrtle Beach continues to ramp up its attractions, events, and quality dining and accommodations. Following is a look at what is expected for the Myrtle Beach for 2012.

The Grand Park Athletic Complex

The The Grand Park Athletic Complex is slated to open its doors in early 2012. Three full sized multipurpose fields and two junior sized multipurpose fields along with a roller hockey facility will comprise the new complex.

Adrenaline Adventures Parks

In the spring quarter of 2012, the new Adrenaline Adventures Park will be erected in the place of where the Pavilion Amusement Park was once situated, on on some acreage at the end of south Myrtle Beach. The park will host zip-line courses for young people and adults alike. Two distinct themes are planned for these amusement parks: a “Shabby Shack” theme and a “Tiki-style” theme ala Swiss Family Robinson.

Myrtle Beach Golf Courses get new greens

For the avid golfer out there, the Barefoot Dye and Barefoot Love golf courses are getting new greens in 2012, switching to Champion Ultra-Dwarf from Bent grass. Some courses have already made the switch and have received rave reviews because of the change.

The Myrtle Beach Art Museum Year-Round 15th Anniversary

The Franklin G. Burroughs/Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is having a 15-year anniversary that will last for the whole year of 2012. The “I Heart Art” celebration is meant to get people engaged in the art world in a variety of ways and is planned as a highlight for myrtle beach for 2012.

Pat Boone Family Theater

The Pat Boone Family Theater plans a winter 2012 debut. The theater, built on the prior site of the NASCAR Cafe, will now host 600 people for concerts and a range of other entertaining shows including comedy shows, gospel concerts, and much more. The Pat Boone Museum will be on-site and will showcase memoribilia from Boone’s entertainment career, which started in the 50s and continues with great success today.

South Carolina Warriors

The SC Warriors are a Myrtle Beach based semi-pro basketball team that play as a part of the ABA. Warriors home games are in Little River and the basketball season goes on through March of 2012.

New Electric Vehicle Charger Stations

The “Plug In California” non-profit organization has placed EV (Electric Vehicle) charger stations around the Grand Strand area. Eventually, 80 stations are planned across the state. Each station can charge two vehicles at once.

HWY 17 Interchange: Back Gate

This new Interchange will remove the traffic light and help allow for unimpeded movement on HWY 17. This is expected to lower unnecessary traffic delays. A new U-turn,on the Northern end of the Interchange, will be part of the project.

Boat Ramp At Kings Road

The Kings Road Boat Ramp, parking lot, and public restrooms is a two million dollar project expected to be ready for use in myrtle beach for 2012.

ITAP Park

The Technology and Aerospace park is a 460 acre large technology park at the Myrtle Beach International Airport and will be completed in 2012. The Market Common district hosts the ITAP public park entry. Guests can enjoy eclectic shopping and eateries, and are only a mile from the Atlantic Ocean.

Airport Extended

Since more Myrtle Beach visitors than ever arrive via air in 2012, the airport has started an expansion that includes new aviation and passenger terminals. The passenger terminal will grow to 12 gates in size, allowing for increased speed and efficiency in handling Myrtle Beach International Airport visitors.

The Springmaid Pier

The Springmaid Pier is being revamped for myrtle beach for 2012. The pier restaurant, Barnacles, will undergo a facelift and will add additional seating areas outside. A new bar that serves drinks plus a full menu will be added outdoors as well. New live music is planned weekly. The “Hurricane Simulator” attraction will be added, as will a massive chair in which guests can take photos.

New Target

Myrtle Beach will welcome a Target store in 2012. The SayeBrook Town Center, located close to US 17 and SC 544, will include homes as well as shopping like the new Target. Target is projected to be around 135,000 feet in size.

Peaches Corner Restaurant Restyling

The Peaches Corner Restaurant, a historic landmark in the area, will undergo some changes in myrtle beach for 2012. The remodel will include a fresh facade and a massive spinning peach perched upon the building. A new countertop will show dozens of years of Myrtle Beach history in photographs.

Here are a few you may not even know about!

Yep, the internet is growing faster than any tech buffs could ever imagine, and with the recent announcement that Myrtle Beach is top Googled destination, it’s no wonder there are so many Myrtle Beach websites out there. Here are a few you may not even know about! These websites we picked out were based on INFORMATION only. They may not have the best design out there, but the info is amazing.

Myrtle Beach Remembered

www.myrtlebeachremembered.com

If you like nostalgia, then this is your spot! It’s a simple website with one main page, but is full of everything that Myrtle Beach used to have to offer (and things that are even still around). It has plenty of information about each of the different attractions and restaurants that used to dot the area. The author put quite a bit of work into this site and it is worth checking out, even just for a minute, especially if you are local.

Fun Beaches

www.funbeaches.com

One of the largest and most thorough directories to EVERYTHING Myrtle Beach that we can find. Wikipedia can’t hold a flame to this site. The owner still actively updates it with new information as well. You can get lost in here, finding different websites you didn’t think existed. Contains information from lodging to campgrounds to fishing piers to state parks to live entertainment. There is even an article on the best place to find sea shells! Don’t forget to check out the message board as well.

The Digi-tel

myrtlebeach.thedigitel.com

News FOR the community BY the community. If you are looking for an alternative news source for the Myrtle Beach area, this is the ticket. What makes this site appealing is how clean and easy-to-use it is. They didn’t try to cram as much information in and put 30 links in their navigation bar. A simple, unique, modern web design. The best part is how users can interact with the site but submitting news of interest. It brings the “people” back into news.

City Data

www.city-data.com/city/Myrtle-Beach-South-Carolina.html

If you are statistics kinda person, you won’t find a better source for information about the Myrtle Beach area — or North Myrtle Beach, for that matter. We are talking basic information from population and medium income to more advanced statistics like temperatures to natural disasters, even air quality, religious designations. At the bottom, it even shows the “most common last name for deceased individuals.” Granted some of these statistics are a bit old (5 years in some spots), but even so, it’s a very interesting read.

Myrtle Beach Bay

www.myrtlebeachbay.com

Another website like Fun Beaches mentioned above that has a good diverse list of things to do and places to see in Myrtle Beach. It is not a comprehensive list, but you sure will have plenty to do on your vacation here! It contains information on restaurants, mini-golf, pet friendly hotels, and even sandcastles. Be sure to check out the blog too for other little tid-bits.

Myrtle Beach Restaurants

www.myrtlebeachscrestaurants.com

The name is in the title! If there is a restaurant in Myrtle Beach, you better believe this site has a review on it! Amazing user interaction and participation on this website, which makes it a perfect spot for getting honest reviews from PEOPLE. It is very user-friendly as well, breaking down restaurants by food type and area. What makes it better is that you do not need an “account” to submit a review. You can just pick the restaurant, review it and be on your merry way!

Myrtle Beach Jet Ski Rentals Directory

http://www.myrtlebeachjetskirentals.net

This was a nice hidden gem that we found, during a mission to find a customer some information on jet ski rentals in Myrtle Beach. For vacationers, finding a place to rent a jet ski in the Grand Strand can be a daunting task, but this website not only allows you to see WHICH companies offer rentals, but their current RATES as well. This allows for the visitor to make an informed decision on which jet ski rental company fits them best.

Of course, if you have any other submissions for websites, please comment below and let us know!

Who doesn’t love pirates? Every kid dreams of sailing the open sea and finding a shipload of treasure on a deserted island. Now that Johnny Depp’s made swashbuckling cool for all ages, it’s about time somebody came up with a way to combine a hearty meal with a little maritime mayhem – making this a top Myrtle Beach attraction!

Leave it to Dolly Parton to figure out how to satisfy our need for chicken and barbecued pork with generous sides of pistol-bracing, cutlass waving, plank-walking and, of course, mermaids. The new Pirates Voyage dinner theater in Myrtle Beach opened in June of 2011 for “Fun, Feast & Adventure.” Dolly gutted her Dixie Stampede location and brought in crews to do a complete renovation. The result is an exterior that looks like it was lifted off the streets of Tortuga and an eye-popping set featuring a 15-foot deep lagoon and three pirate ships.

Dolly came up with an original score for the show, which features live animals, acrobatics, underwater choreography and lots of swashbuckling action. The audience cheers and boos as the crews of the Crimson and the Sapphire clash in a battle that spreads across the decks and into the ships’ rigging, the water and even the air. The audience’s response helps decide the winner, so not even the cast knows at the outset which side will win.

In the days of Blackbeard and Anne Bonney, ships were known for the number of cannon they had on board, not for their delicious dinner menus. Luckily, Dolly Parton understands that a good host needs both. Some dinner theaters seem to think if the show’s good the food doesn’t have to be, but the food at Pirates Voyage could draw crowds even without a show. Unless you call ahead and ask for a vegetarian meal you will be served creamy vegetable soup, bread, half a chicken, barbecued pork shank, fried shrimp, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and apple pie. It’s probably not authentic pirate fare, but that’s probably not really Johnny Depp’s hair, either. Who cares? It’s all good fun.

Adults pay $41.99 for dinner and the show. Children four to eleven pay $21.99; children under four pay regular child’s fare if you want a seat for them. If they can sit on a lap they’re free. Pirates Voyage is wheelchair accessible and they have special headsets available for people who think they may have trouble hearing the show.

We thought we’d have a little fun with this blog post. The beach is a fantastic place to lay out, wade in the water, and take funny photos of funny people. While these photos are not of Myrtle Beach, I wanted to take the time to point out to you things you might see on other beaches. So take a gander and keep in mind if you don’t want to see aging men’s tan lines, you might want to think about a Myrtle Beach vacation rather than any other beach.

Beauty and the Beach – Just another day at the beach. Oh wait, gotta go home and put on my pants suit.

Headless Sunbather – This is one that can be recreated with your friends. I especially like this one because the sand sculptors did a fantastic job with the headless part. You can’t even see a trace of her head!

Child’s Play- I don’t know whether this is failure in parenting, or public school reading comprehension, but somewhere along the lines these little guys forgot to pay attention. By the way, how could this possibly be the funnest thing to do at the beach?

Photo Op Time! Ladies love the Chimps, and apparently Chimps love the ladies. Okay, we have to find this beach. If a chimp can land women like that, I might just stand a chance!

Coke Ran Out of Polar Bears - Remember to always stay hydrated on the beach! This little guy’s got the right idea.

Shark Attack! Or… wait… at least he can’t come on shore….

Cue BayWatch Theme Music – With that cliff in the background, I’m pretty sure this is in or along the west coast somewhere. Duly noted.

Sand Trap- Just another day on the sand highway. Watch for flooded ‘roads.’

No Escape from Fun in the Sun! – This is where the kiddies go for “yard time”.

It Could Be Worse! – I don’t want to hear about Myrtle Beach being crowded ever again. You could be here! Although it is colorful from above…..

Yes, A Pig At the Beach – Hey, the sign said no DOGS allowed. It didn’t say anything about swine!

Expressions in the Sand – Some build sand castles. Others…. well, do this.

Don’t Make Me! I may be a lab, but that doesn’t mean I AUTOMATICALLY like water!

“MOM! You didn’t tell me there’d be WATER at the beach!” – Heed the warning, water may appear at the beach from time to time.

North Myrtle Beach is the perfect place to plan your next peaceful vacation. A cozy retreat nestled between Myrtle Beach and Little River, North Myrtle Beach provides a more sanctuary-like feeling while still maintaining the luxuries and amenities of the more commercial Myrtle Beach. Home to Vanna White, The Shag, and Alligator Adventure, North Myrtle Beach is the vacation destination for those not looking for unattended children walking the strip. Plenty of beachfront, over 30 golf courses, and amazing local eateries, North Myrtle Beach prides itself in being a family oriented town. Enjoy fishing? Check out the Cherry Grove Fishing pier, the only two story observation deck at any privately owned pier in the Myrtle Beach area. The Cherry Grove Pier is 985 feet of fishing fun for the entire family.

The Cherry Grove Pier in North Myrtle Beach

Barefoot Landing takes a twist on regular outdoor malls. Surrounding a 27-acre lake, Barefoot Landing takes advantage of beautiful scenery utilizing docks allowing you to easily maneuver throughout. Be sure to check out local shops such as Black Market Minerals and House of Style. Grab lunch at Greg Norman’s Australian Grille or travel back to the 50’s and eat at Johnny Rockets Diner. For the kids, the Alligator Adventure Park is a great hands-on experience while the Ghosts and Legends Theater caters to the more mature young adults. For the older crowd, the House of Blues and Alabama Theatre makes Barefoot Landing not only a great day spot but also a great evening night life experience.

For many vacationers of South Carolina, golf is always on the mind and North Myrtle Beach is no different. North Myrtle Beach golf packages are a visitor favorite with tons of courses to choose from. Barefoot Resort & Golf located right behind Barefoot Landing has 4 courses each with its own difficulty level. Another great course is Beachwood Golf Club. Perfect for all ages and experience levels Beachwood Golf Club offers amazing afternoon rates.

Dining is one of those rare vacation moments where the whole family actually gets to see each other. After a day at the beach or Barefoot Landing, try venturing a few miles north into Little River, South Carolina or Calabash, North Carolina. Here you’ll find good ole’ southern cooking at its finest. Located right on the Intracoastal Waterway in Little River, SC is Captain Juel’s Hurricane Restaurant. Watch fishermen haul in the fresh catch of the day while relaxing on Capt. Juel’s outdoor deck overlooking beautiful untouched marshland. Just five minutes from Little River is Calabash, NC. This small fishing town is known for its local hospitality and their cooking reflects this attitude. Ella’s of Calabash, voted “Best seafood in Brunswick County” Ella’s is a favorite with locals and vacationers alike.

A vast array of local eateries and specialty shops are sprinkled throughout. Be sure to check out Pawley’s Island Hammocks and the Crab Cake Lady shop.
Three sections will make up the new boardwalk. The northern section will be a calming walkway on a raised wooden deck, surrounded by peaceful views of dunes, palm trees, and the ocean.

Thanks to a tweeter on twitter, I found nice article about the Grand Strand area in U.S. Airways Magazine (yea, I know, odd). I, for one, have not seen a U.S. Airways magazine in the past, even though I have flown with them on many occasions.

Even so, it’s not just one article, but a few good ones about the different aspects of Myrtle Beach, from golf to business to a “best of Myrtle Beach section”. Let’s start with the fun stuff, shall we?

The named the Best Golf Hole as “The Gambler”. It’s at MBN’s Kings North course. Par 5, designed by Arnold Palmer. They say the best route is just a roll of the dice. Best Ice Cream? Despite a mixture of good and bad reviews on the Myrtle Beach Restaurants website, Painters Homemade Ice Cream in North Myrtle holds the title for excellent ice cream. Best Souvenirs? The Gay Dolphin on the ocean drive section of Myrtle Beach. And Collector’s Cafe brought the title for fine dining.

Now I have to throw facts out at you about Myrtle Beach. Some of these are pretty staggering. The Grand Strand area has more than 47,000 hotel ROOMS, 1,700 restaurants, 1,800 golf holes, 15 million annual visitors and 60 miles of beaches. Pretty nifty huh? There were also 3,387 marriage licenses issued in 2008 from Horry County, according to the article.

New Boardwalk

One of the articles even touched on the new Boardwalk that should open next summer. It will be 1.2 miles and connect the two piers in the downtown Myrtle Beach area. The boardwalk will be broken down into three sections, a) a nature trail, b), a “nostalgic reverie with mom-and-pop shops and restaurants”, and c) the promenade, which will have larger areas for special events and concerts. This new boardwalk should add another who dynamic to the Myrtle Beach vacation. And since it is close to many Myrtle Beach hotels and condos, access to it will be quite easy for the tourists.

Some Pavilion History

Ready for a Myrtle Beach history lesson? Did you know the Myrtle Beach Pavilion was lost in a fire, not once, but twice? The first in 1920 (rebuilt in 1925) and then again in 1944. Then in 1948, Burroughs and Chapin rebuilt it for the third time, but used reinforced concrete walls. The park was host to 40 seaside rides, including a carousel that was 1 of 15 in the United States. It also included South Carolina’s tallest, fastest, and longest wooden roller coaster.

Like I said, these articles covered quite a bit in the Myrtle Beach area and were well written. It’s good to see Myrtle Beach noted and on the map. We don’t just have Myrtle Beach condos and hotel rooms, but a history of golf, games, amusement and much more.

Oktoberfest, Taste of the Town, and Halloween will give you plenty to do this month.

Oktoberfest
Germany’s Oktoberfest, started in 1810, is known as the largest public fair and has become so popular that Oktoberfest celebrations are held around the world. There are many different places around Myrtle Beach hotels to enjoy the festivities. Market Common will be holding its festival on October 3rd with German food, beer and wine, and children’s activities. The City of Myrtle Beach will also be celebrating Oktoberfest on October 3rd along downtown Ocean Boulevard, with food vendors, a biergarten, a bratwurst eating contest, an alcohol-free kids zone with inflatables, and live music featuring Edwin McCain. The town of Surfside Beach will also be holding a Family Festival on the same day with food booths, live entertainment, and children’s events. Broadway at the Beach celebrates Oktoberfest and its Fall Festival October 9th-11th with a German-inspired menu at Liberty Steakhouse, musical and dance performances, and pumpkin painting and fireworks on Saturday.

Taste of the Town
Taste of the Town is the talk of the town! This event, now in its 25th year, is the Grand Strand’s biggest culinary and social event. Over fifty of the finest restaurants in Myrtle Beach will offer samples of their delicious dishes and desserts. Don’t miss out on this chance to mingle and try some of the best food around. Taste of the Town 2009 takes place October 27th from 4PM to 10PM at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

Halloween
There are Halloween events for both kids and adults in Myrtle Beach this year. Head over to Broadway at the Beach for trick-or-treating, Booville at Pavilion Nostalgia Park, and a Halloween costume party and contest for adults. There will also be Halloween trick-or-treating at the shops at Market Common.

Have fun on your Myrtle Beach vacation with these great events! You can view the entire calendar of events on our Myrtle Beach Condos website.

July 4th is a favorite time for people to book their Myrtle Beach vacations. It’s a great way to enjoy the summer at the beach, and with all the local holiday events, it’s no wonder tourists from all around choose to make the Grand Strand their Fourth of July destination.

There will be July 4th celebrations all up and down the coast this year. Broadway at the Beach will have face painting, patriotic music and fireworks from July 2 to July 4. Market Common will have music, children’s activities, and fireworks from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on July 4. Surfside Beach will be having live music, moon bounce, concessions, and a fireworks display at Surfside Pier from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Head to the Murrell’s Inlet Marshwalk area at 5:00 pm for the 26th Annual July 4th Boat Parade.

There’s been a lot of new attractions added since last summer! Now is the perfect time to try out the brand new waterslide on second avenue in North Myrtle Beach, or head down to Myrtle Beach to see the new Market Common shopping complex. Freestyle Music Park, at the site of the old Hard Rock Amusement Park, is also open for business with a rollercoaster and lots of amusement rides.

There are several area movie theaters for those who like to enjoy a movie during the holiday. Myrtle Beach Mall (aka Colonial Mall) in North Myrtle Beach, Coastal Grande Mall, Broadway at the Beach, and the new Market Common all have great theaters. Right now, there’s a movie out for everyone. This summer’s Star Trek movie is still in theaters and has been getting rave reviews. There’s also Disney/Pixar’s Up for the kids, Terminator and Transformers for action fans, the comedies Hangover and Away We Go, the tearjerker My Sister’s Keeper, and the horror thriller Drag Me To Hell.

Finish it all off with a live show at the Palace Theatre, go shopping at Tanger Outlets, or finish off a round of golf at one of our championship courses. Enjoy your holiday at Myrtle Beach!
